Welcome to the Eighth Swedish Language Technology Conference (SLTC), which will take place online in Göteborg 25–27 November 2020, with workshops on Wednesday 25 November and the main conference Thursday–Friday 26–27 November.

Because of the current increase of Covid-19 cases in Sweden and Europe, SLTC 2020 will be held as a purely online conference.

  • Workshop proposal submission deadline: Tuesday 9 June
  • Workshop notification of acceptance: Wednesday 10 June
  • Abstract submission deadline: Tuesday 1 September Extended to Tuesday 8 September, 23:59 CET
  • Decision about conference format: Early October
  • Notification of acceptance: Tuesday 13 October
  • Camera ready papers: Tuesday 3 November
  • Final day for registration: Tuesday 17 November

Workshops

Workshops will be held on Wednesday 25 November, immediately preceding the main conference. The following workshops have been accepted:

  • 9th NLP4CALL (NLP for Computer-Assisted Language Learning), full-day workshop. Submission deadline: 23 September. Extended to 30 September.
  • 2nd Workshop on Computational Detection of Language Change, half-day afternoon workshop. Submission deadline: 1 October.
  • RESOURCEFUL (Resources and Representations For Under-Resourced Languages and Domains), half-day morning workshop. Submission deadline: 29 September. Extended to 13 October.
  • Applied Swedish NLP, half-day afternoon workshop. No submissions – only participation.

Content

Papers are invited on all theoretical, practical and applied aspects of language technology, including natural language processing, computational linguistics, speech technology and neighbouring areas. Papers can describe completed or ongoing research, as well as practical applications of language technology, and may be combined with system demonstrations.

Format

Papers will be presented at the conference as posters or oral short or long online presentations, according to the decision of the programme committee.

Publication policy

The conference does not publish any proceedings, but accepted contributions will be made available on the conference web page as extended abstracts. Hence, it is possible to submit abstracts related to work that has been, or will be, published elsewhere, as long as this is compatible with the conditions of the respective publication channels.

In addition, we are looking into possibilities for a dedicated post-proceedings volume in some journal, or similar kind of publication venue. The idea is that the post-proceedings will solicit full-length versions of selected conference papers, and will have a separate review process which will be initiated shortly after SLTC 2020 so that feedback from the conference can be incorporated into the post-proceeding versions.

Submission

Papers are submitted as extended abstracts and should include author names and affiliations (i.e., they should not be anonymous). When preparing your paper, please use the style sheets for EMNLP 2020:

  • This is a zip archive containing stylesheets and templates for LaTeX and Microsoft Word.
  • The EMNLP templates contain instructions for how to make the paper anonymous – you don't have to follow these guidelines. Also, you don't have to care about the multiple submission policy – SLTC doesn't have any such policy – and you don't have to include supplementary material.
  • For LaTeX users: to get a non-anonymous version you must uncomment line 26 in the LaTeX template, i.e., uncomment the line containing "\aclfinalcopy".

The abstract should be up to 4 pages, excluding references, and is submitted via EasyChair no later than Tuesday 8 September, 23:59 CEST (UTC+2):

SLTC 2020 is organised by University of Gothenburg, and in particular:

  • CLASP (the Centre for Linguistic Theory and Studies in Probability) at the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics and Theory of Science,
  • Språkbanken Text (the Language Bank) at the Department of Swedish, and
  • the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
